A Boutique Hotel that’s Pure Playa Charm

A Boutique Hotel that’s Pure Playa Charm

Playa del Carmen is a go-to beach town for tourists on the east coast of Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo. Big resort hotels and condos are abundant but look past those and you’ll find the most charming, small boutique hotel called La Semilla.

Just off the main 5th Avenue shopping/walking street and a three-minute walk from the public beach, La Semilla’s prime location makes it easy to check out the town or spend time in the sand. The rooftop patio is the perfect place to relax with a book or a drink.

Design is a mix of old furniture pieces, beautiful Mexican tile and whitewashed wood floors, and unique light fixtures. Inspired by the “rough lux” movement, the result is a non-fussy, light, beachy vibe that is homey and welcoming. The nine rooms range in size but all maintain this cozy aesthetic. The terrace rooms on the top floor have balconies with outdoor showers and wide windows to bring in great light.

There is no restaurant, but with dozens of restaurants just outside the front door, this is no problem. A friendly concierge will check you in, greet you with a cold beer to sip in the lush, tropical garden space. This is where daily breakfast is also served. The chef cooks up a different health-conscious delight daily, and fresh juices and coffee bring the vacation vibes full circle. La Semilla is intimate and comfortable, and in the busy, touristy town of Playa del Carmen, this is exactly the respite you’ll be looking for.
